5th Symposium 2016 – The Best Yet!

The 5th Annual Southeast Asian Studies Symposium was held on 14 – 16 April 2016 and it was a huge success.  It was held in conjunction with the Festival of Southeast Asia in Oxford. Thank you to all participants for making the Symposium such an amazing event!

Some brief statistics:

– over 400 participants from over 30 countries attended all the sessions, lectures, and Festival events
– The Symposium was opened by José Ramos-Horta, former President of Timor-Leste and also featured Hashim Djojohadikusomo and Dr Elizabeth Pisani as speakers
– 180 papers in 50 academic panels
– Festival of Southeast Asia included art and photographic exhibitions, dance performances, public seminars, and a Documentary Film Festival
– by far the largest annual Southeast Asian Studies conference in the world
