SEA Documentary Film Festival 2016 – Lost in the Mists of Time
Year : 2016
Filmmaker: Dr Martin Seeger
Based on his long-term research on the remarkable life and literary work of Khunying Damrongthammasan (1882-1944), together with a Thai team, Dr Seeger has produced a 60 minute documentary film that will be shown to the public for the first time. This film is about the wrongful authorship attribution of an important Buddhist treatise, which was formerly believed to have been written by one of Thailand’s most famous and influential monks.
Dr Seeger and his Thai colleague have recently demonstrated that this treatise was in fact authored by the hitherto little-known devout Buddhist woman, Khunying Damrongthammasan (Yai Wisetsiri). The film tells the story of Khunying Yai’s inspiring Buddhist practice and her Buddhist texts, which are widely regarded as masterpieces of Buddhist scholarship.
